The Science Department at PV High is very proud to provide students with authentic hands-on opportunities to explore, learn and practice science in the areas of physics, biology, marine biology, anatomy and physiology, environmental science, earth science, chemistry and scientific research. Such opportunities include: conducting research in the Galapagos Islands, observing and identifying local tide pool organisms, executing protein purification and DNA technology techniques, performing a variety of chemistry experiments, testing local ocean water bacteria levels, and figuring out the physics of roller coasters. Many of our course offerings have an honors and advanced placement options as well. In addition, our signature and renowned PViT and Science Research programs provide students opportunities to collaborate and partner with exceptional professionals in the surrounding community.

The Science Department’s mission is to provide students with a practical and comprehensive understanding of science phenomena as it relates to life, the environment and global citizenship.

Conduct science research in the Galapagos Islands, observe and identify local tide pool organisms, perform protein purification and DNA technology techniques, build a remotely operated vehicle, or figure out the physics of roller coasters! Whatever your interests, the PVHS science department offers a variety of unique, hands-on learning opportunities for you to explore in all areas of science.
