Naviance - Resources

 
 
Naviance Student is a web-based service designed especially for students and parents, that can help you make decisions about courses, colleges, and careers. Naviance Student also features up-to-date information that’s specific to our school. Naviance allows our school to share information with you about upcoming meetings, news, and events, as well as other web resources for post high school planning. Students may access their Naviance account via the Single Sign On (SSO) Portal and then click on the Naviance icon.
 
With the Naviance Student mobile app, students can access post high school planning on the go! Once installed, the mobile-friendly app will periodically sync with the student’s Family Connection account. The mobile app can be used online and offline; download it now from the App Store. (This app is not available for parent accounts.)
 
Naviance Student offers the following features to Palos Verdes High School Students:

 

  •  Discover individual strengths and learning styles
  • Take career assessments and explore careers
  • Get involved in the college planning and advising process – build a resume, complete on-line surveys, and manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers
  • Plan for post-secondary success—Set short and long term goals and complete tasks related to career and college planning
  • Research colleges – Utilize college search engines to create a customized list of schools for you to consider
  • Sign up for college visits – Find out which colleges are visiting our school and sign up to attend those sessions
  • Request teacher recommendations for colleges
  • View submission status of application materials/track application documents

Résumé

-Record your high school activities, awards, volunteer experience, etc.

-Rearrange your information into multiple printable versions of a résumé that you can use to present to potential employers or colleges in the future.

  1. Click the About Me tab in the top right navigation panel
  2. Click the My Stuff hyperlink
  3. Click the Résumé hyperlink under the My Stuff section

Career Interest Profile

A career interest survey about interest in types of work activities. Use the results to explore suggested occupations; examine the education, training, and skills required [and where to obtain them], as well as wages typical for these occupations.

  1. Click the Careers tab in the top right navigation panel
  2.  Click on the Explore button
  3.  Scroll to the Career Interest Profiler hyperlink under the What are My Interests section

Personality Survey

Use the results to explore suggested college majors and careers based on your talents and strengths.

  1. Click the About Me tab in the top right navigation panel
  2. Click the My Assessments hyperlink
  3. Click the Strength Explorer

College Search

-Set search criteria to a list of colleges to explore.

 -Save your search to access/modify later.

-Click on the various tabs of the college profile to learn more information.

-Click the heart next to the college name, to make it a favorite and add the college(s).

  2. Click on the Find Your Fit button
  3. Click the Advanced College Search hyperlink 

College Maps

Groups of types of colleges by location. Click on a college to view its profile.

Application History

Summary of PVHS application results (total applicants, students accepted, and students enrolled,) by year.

  1. Click the Colleges tab in the top right navigation panel 
  2. Click on the Find Your Fit button
  3. Click on the College Lookup hyperlink
  4. After looking up and selecting a college, click the Admissions tab beneath the college name and look at the Applications from Your High School section.

Graph/GPA/Test Score

Historical application results (accepted, denied) represented in a scattergram graph; applicant average GPA appears on the y-axis and applicant average SAT/ACT scores on the x-axis.

For an applicant to be represented on a scattergram for a given college, three things must be present:

  1. An application result (accepted or denied)
  2. A GPA
  3. A test score
  1. Click the Colleges tab in the top right navigation panel
  2. Click on the Find Your Fit button
  3. Click on the College Lookup hyperlink
  4. After looking up and selecting a college, click the Admissions tab beneath the college name, scroll down the page to the Scattergrams section
  5. Select SAT or ACT scores from the Comparing drop down menu

Comparing Colleges

Compare your GPA and test scores to the average GPA and test scores of PVHS admitted students for colleges you are considering. School averages are displayed in green when your academic profile is higher and in red when your academic profile is lower than those of past admitted students.

  1. Click the Colleges tab in the top right navigation panel
  2. Click on the Research Colleges button
  3. Click the College Compare hyperlink.

NOTE: College Rep Visits are open to Juniors and Seniors. Registration via your Naviance Student Account is required and Teacher approval is required to leave class.
 
To register for a College Rep Visit, please follow the instructions below:
 
1) Log into your Naviance Student Account via the Single Sign On (SSO) Portal and click on the Naviance icon
 
(If you have a problem, please contact tech support at PVHS or the District Help Desk)
 
2)  Once you've logged in, click on the "Colleges" tab in upper right corner:

3) Scroll to the bottom of the screen where you will see "College Visits" on the left. You may click on the visit you're interested in, or click the “Show more” link to view additional visits:

4) Once you're scrolled through the visits, select “Register Now” for those you would like to attend:
