start a recording so I'm going to go ahead and continue where I was before and perhaps you know few someone that isn't here you can tell them that the recording is on my website if I can somehow figure out how to transfer it hopefully I will be able to is EIC you have a question answer format of two and three okay let me get two and three so from two and three are just a list of numbers so they 3-point seat you should just have all six of these numbers here if you have one of them wrong cuz I don't know any do some arithmetic wrong or something you should take off a point if you have two of them wrong a few points you get through more than one take us three points so you can go ahead and and just great it based on that the only format think about what your question is is he okay 2 through 6 and just groups the given one in my answer so so you never wrote -7 didn't have -7 as part of your answer included the negative 7 unit was in a separate box I would go ahead and give myself away for that but he knows this is all you wrote you box this then it's not following the directions because it says write the first six terms and what you just wrote this would be just writing terms to E36 I'm super on number 4 just give yourself credit if you circled a the reason I circled a because I saw that these two answers only had terms 133 in this says... understand your question Spencer cannot read other question are we sure what that means anyways terms 1 2 3 but then it goes... corresponds 929 Bashir I plug in 0 and I got four as my first term obviously for not supposed to be the first term so I basically do this by process of elimination these two don't make any sense because of what I just said and this one here doesn't make any sense because and this one doesn't make any sense because when you plug in zero you got four can you speed up here when I get through this about 20 minutes so I'm good little faster when should we be getting no partial credit for the same reason as on the previous ones this goes on forever EXO these two end at 3 so just crossed those out what isn't right because he played in 00 here you plug in one you get Negative to switch supposed to get so must be be next add up terms 2 through 6 and looking at what I wrote here I actually just figured out I don't think there's any shortcut to this so I couldn't think of a shark spell I plugged into a plug-in three of looking for plug inside plug in six and I got these five numbers and they added up to 65 now this obviously isn't part of this isn't multiple choice you can give yourself partial credit on this I miss all you did Ron Isley say got one of these five numbers wrong because you did some arithmetic wrong and still give yourself go to free Coinstar just take out one point if you did that what's that a mistake you made made you may have thought because of the six on top that you're supposed to be adding 6 numbers you're not supposed to be adding 6 numbers you're supposed to be adding only 5 numbers so that's kind of big mistake start take out to if I saw that so if I saw 6 numbers being added together I take off two points for doing that cuz I know in class I mentioned how some people make the mistake of thinking that the number on top of the sigma is a number of terms and that is not because in this case you're starting with the second term not starting with the first time I think that there's anything else that you can get partial credit for so 55 gives you all three points if you have the five numbers but one of the numbers is wrong and still give yourself I might as one if you have a couple of them wrong -2 again if you have the wrong number of numbers if you have six numbers that's bad news so that should be minus 2 can 3 4 and 5 no partial credit just right or wrong can number 7 that's a linear salvation so that means charismatic if something is arithmetic and you're doing the sum you supposed to use the arithmetic series formula so that would mean n x a 1 + 8 10 / 2 well this case you're going from 1 to 100 so that means it's a hundred term so that's why I put in a hundred I figured out that a one is to a plug-in one I got two I plugged in a hundred and I got negative 394 so there's my A1 there's my a 100 and you just have to set up but you don't got that number at the end negative 19600 cuz maybe something went wrong with your arithmetic and just take off one point or doing something wrong with the arithmetic she got this setup that's worth to are the three points there is no tickets worth one point now let's say you got one thing wrong in the setup let's say that number right there you got wrong but you think you did the arithmetic after that correct this number wrong maybe wrote negatives 404 example I would only take out one points for that they just have to find where you're mistaken hopefully to make hummus give yourself more credit number 8 could be a super-long problem if you do it the way the book did it looked at it by doing a system of equations I'm the way I did in my notes if I did it by using the slope formula this is worth two points that write slope getting the rights of a common difference of 7/2 that's worth two points I'm getting that for at the end that's worth of Point those who didn't get the for the reason it's for is because this is the rule cuz you know the common difference is supposed to be 7 has it is this is the rule can you plug in 12 in put 12in to this rule you got 7/2 * 12 which is 42 and supposed to be 46 so that's why I added the forest make it 46 perfectly okay for the number to be in a different form like 3.5 is a good form for 7/2 lots of problems on the flip side of this test that you'll see decimal or fraction answer you might have it in a different way as long as it's equal I would give myself full credit call Page 2 so number 9 was one of the easier problems because you might have been able to actually just write this down without any work early because you just know it's geometric it says right there is geometric so you just remember the geometric sequence formula and you put in a 5 right there sorry about the delay so you put the five right there cuz it's the first term and then this guy here I think I would figure out that is 2/3 by multiplying the top and bottom like notice how the 10 turns into a 20 Trends in a 40 Trends in the 80s cuz you're doubling so that's where I get the two and then on the bottom here i x 3 to X so that's where I get to three what else out if I could if it will say you don't remember that way you could always get the common ratio by taking a term dividing by the previous so she did 10/3 / 5 you know you would eventually get to Thor's also that way that's where the one point that's worth 2 points so if you got the 5 but somehow you got the wrong common ratio you do have to take off two points cuz that's the more important thing okay what else oh yeah number 10 it was a problem on your homework it was section 8.3 number 37 were on many of your assignments when I replied I pointed out that many of you wrote an answer I'm incorrectly so you only woke wrote one answer which was a mistake and sorry you wrote an answer where it was like 5 - + - that I wrote back I can't do that because that actually needs is For answers and we're only supposed to have two answers here this is almost identical to the problem on homework I remember correctly with number 37 from section 8.3 I'm so if you left this out this is a great indication of age do your homework little bit better and learn from the mistakes learn from I was really surprised how often I would see people you know writing this down not this and then I'm like questioning myself weight is it that's all I remember getting up my phone going to the app and looking to see if they had both of these answers and they did so and you look up number 37 on the app there were two answers so you should have had to answer the reason there were two answers because when you set up a system and solve you end up with art of the 4th equals 1/16 and so you end up with are equal in + - 1/2 what do you put in a Posite one has to go deposit 192 for a one-week put in a negative 1/2 to get a negative 192 that's another thing that's it. What's wrong one of them is class one is my assessment when it's plus are we supposed to be positive in which are supposed to be this is a six-point problem so unfortunately it is like last year one of the big things last year when I grade a test with people that left that out and I have to take all three points big deal it was on the homework three points off for leaving out the second answer super, unless there are two common mistakes last year was leaving out the second answer on number 10 and prime number 18 those are the two that were huge huge mistakes so how do you get partial credit on this besides that let's say this kind of brutal tell you the truth this kind of brutal you could easily end up now getting a -5 on this for example you don't know about the second answer and you look over here and let's say you did the calculation wrong and you wrote the wrong are that's - 2 - 3 x - 5 if you wrote The Crack are if you figured out that ours 1/2 you have the wrong it has to be a total of -4 as we minus one because you got that wrong and then -3 cuz you got an entire answer left out so I'm yeah this is could have potentially been a pretty brutal problem obviously if you get it all wrong she never figured I would our is probably got a one wrong so there's a good chance you know if you can get our correct never fit then minus 6 phone number 11 number 11 I used the most commonly formula on this test you actually used the infinite geometric series formula I think three times at least on this test this is the first time so if the infinite geometric series first term is 3 and the common ratio when you go from 9/7 2749 and multiplying by 7 on the bottom sound x 3 on top 7 on the bottom 3 on top 7 on the bottom and negative signs are all terrain set of 3 is the first term and the common ratio is -3/7 so if you got set up that's worth two points then you have to grade your arithmetic if you wrote 2.1 here that's fine if you wrote three over one -3/7 instead of -3/7 I want a great. Tens on whether or not you got the final answer that's consistent arithmetic wise with making that mistake let me figure out what that would would be that would be 3 / 473 for 7 21/4 so 21/4 I would take off 1.4 that your mistake is not having negative but you did the arithmetic right so 21 Force I would get myself minus one should I number to there's no work to be shown this is one point this is two points so she leave this out got to go minus one she got this wrong Yucca -2 number 13 multiple choice no no partial credit on this one if you got B you got for credit see how did I get beat I looked I did it by process of elimination I think o I confirmed it so I eliminate this right away cuz I didn't understand this at all but how can you use a a term from the future to come up with a term doesn't make any sense so this didn't make since I cross that out then I tried figuring out the second term here and I got 49 and when I figure out the second term here also got 29 Witcher books wands when I plugged in to over here I got to * 7 + 14 so that's right so that's why I chose be number 14 explicit rule given a recursive rule I know I said in class I don't really like to use this formula but I'm this one it's just too easy for music server I use it they told me the fur and based on doing the homework you know that anytime it's the previous term plus or minus a number that number they're adding or subtracting is our common difference so 11 is my first term in difference bunch of algebra is another place where I'm sure a lot of you wrote 11.5 here or 25 here that's fine sound terms points on sf1 OC coin horn I guess one point for the getting the D correct and two points for getting the y-intercept correct cuz the y-intercept you have to do two things you have to do a little bit of arithmetic having together so this Niger 1/2 with the wrong number here - 2 number 15 kind of sort of similar or even easier because this says the first arm -6 weirdest camera for some reason is well focused on this side of the page little blurry in the middle and then focused again at the end sorry. If you wrote geometric a rule for the sequence rule is what sequences four up the river Rises for the first day rise is twice as much the second day twice as much twice as much twice as much so we're doubling every time here so that means it's geometric and that means we can just take the first turn make that a one and take the fact that we're doubling here and make that my are and there's my rule now it says how much will the river rise over five days so I don't know what happened yet under 24 in a lot of rising doesn't say how much will the river rise on the 5th day so it is wrong to write 64 but I remember last year generous about this if a person read 64 and gave them away -1 but maybe it was cuz I felt guilty some people could interpret it eventually I had people change the tests the same minutes are over cuz maybe then it can't be misinterpreted but you know this the meaning of this is how much will the right River rise in the course of five days then it wasn't supposed to be on the 5th day was supposed to 64 it would have said on the fifth day yeah 6042 got one point number 17 so here's another one of those I told you there were three times on this test where you should have used the infinite geometric series formula and shears the second time you go 23 feet and then 75% of the distance each best of Swing so that's telling you that the first term is 23 + 6.75 if you got this setup correct that's worth two points getting the arithmetic right riding 92 that's worth the final point so you got to set up right but did not write 92 - 1 got the 92 I'll be asleep give yourself a check can't believe I said before that was common mistakes were again leaving out this and the other, the steak was number 18 number 18 you should have used the same formula the reason you should know that it was the heiress I'm sorry the geometric sequence infinite geometric series formula reason you should have known is because there's no indication about some set number of days that you're fishing so this is one of those things it's like... Let's just goes on and on what you're going to do something that's infinitely like that you're going to have to use an infinite series formula for all this is the only incident series formula we have now plugging into it they tell you the sum total of all the fish in the pond is 125 so that means the sum total of the grand total of all the fish in the pond is 125 you're supposed to figure out how many fish we're caught on the first day so A1 is what you don't know of course you're catching 60% of the fish everyday so 60% is the if you got 50 by some other means cuz I remember in previous years some people guess who checked their way to the answer they would go like what if I started with stiff 60% of 50 is 30 signal like 50 + 30 + 18 is start writing it out and then you got to get gas if you figure it out somehow some other ways the mathematical reasoning got 55th credit for it this is how it's supposed to be done but if you're crazy enough to be some other way legitimately give yourself all three points and finally the last question is like those calculator problems that were in section V where you had the the enter button over and over and over again when we did that section 5 it was usually about money and like paying off a loan this one's different because interest on a loan thing where no money is added into the balance and then you make a payment and of course the payment is subtracted from the balance here is different you have your baby your liver no removing some of the drug from your bloodstream and 80% of the drug is being removed so that means you're only left with 20% of it but then you're taking another pill to add it back in so it's kind of like the opposite of money problems where the money problems the factor here was greater than 1 amn this guy right here you are subtracting cuz you're making a payment here we have a number that's less than 1 cuz again drugs being taken out of the bloodstream and then you are adding drug in the bloodstream and that way it's a little bit different, mistakes here you know basically it's going to be your one point for each of these numbers here, mistake is like riding point 80 here lucky for you that's only one point reduction another common mistake is leaving out this 325 thinking low iron the thing is is is if you leave it out I'm actually what happens if you don't take any more of the truck but it does say that you're supposed to be taking the truck aren't you yeah it says your doctor prescribes it every 8 hours though you are supposed to be taking it every an hour so that's why the plus 325 you just took one pill that would be the right answer but since you're taking a pill every 8 hours you got to keep adding an app okay that's it for the test are there any questions on grading you can just put in the chat so I'll private chat now if you have any questions on grading any of the individual problems you should be taking off but I'm assuming most of you did this by negatives obviously if you were doing terribly on the test baby would have been more efficient give yourself positive unless you did it by subtracting so what do you subtract from you subtract from 63 so let's say you just aced the heck out of his past and all you did wrong was so you left this out free there and let's say you had no clue a number 18 cuz it was confusing the  out of you got -3 there then your grade would end up being a 57 out of 60 remember that you're great on this for me I don't know if you'd look online yet but just the explanation I decided for this chapter to be worth 66 points to get it up to 66 points and almost chapters are worth a lot more than that is unusual circumstances and I didn't feel comfortable going all the way up to 66.56 is I'm going to take your grade and multiplication play it by 3 so I'm working this chapter you could have gotten 12 out of 12 always say you did get 12 out of 12 then I'll be 36 out of 36 and then this task it's going to be another 30 so this test is worth more than individual homework assignment visual homeless I'm so far because I'm tripling them are worth 600 this one is going to be worth because of its importance I'm normally of course with a graded test you know where I'm proctoring the test and stuff then the test is 30 times greater than the value of a homework the homework is 2 points test is 60 points so that's like a 32:1 ratio that would be kind of crazy in this circumstance. overemphasize the test so I made it a 5:1 ratio okay I'll post if there's anything if you came in late and you didn't get everything from the first aid to send me the degraded test today but doesn't matter when after I sign off here I'll post the test a clear image in this I'll try to look into over spring break getting a better webcam I didn't have a document camera document cameras are a few hundred dollars and I've never used a document camera you guys a camera that I use in class is actually hooked up directly to the projector it's fantastic you know it doesn't go through the computer no processing there's no lag I miss you ever noticed that but it is a direct connection to the injector it's more an alignment to get digital I know knots converted to digital but anyways morning! At you I'm using a webcam duct tape onto my camera from class so I can use my is my camera from class and you could ask me if you'd be able to see I have a little webcam on that you attach the time when you're doing a Itachi webcam to a desktop computer I just grab that from my daughter and grab it off her computer and duct taped it so that's what I'm using here but it was a pretty cheap webcam I got a question number 9 to write a recursive how much off is that oh wow the only way you know how my test can be chronological this is a very chronological test do you want to take a test during class has anyone asked me if I would have brought up in class you know I would have said no you don't do anything recursive yes you know every time they want you to write a recursive rule in the book and if you guys have noticed that but they've already they always wrote that when they wanted you to write an explicit rule may never said explicitly unless it was here is a recursive Rule now go ahead and write the explicit rule if it's just a general problem when they say write a rule they would just write a rule they wouldn't say write an explicit so that's the reason that's why you don't see the word explicit but I see the point boy I think I I think I'll I would give full credit in this circumstance only because no you weren't taking it in class and I didn't say hey this is supposed to be explicit and recursive as soon as I didn't make that announcement if you wrote here rated as a recursive rule write a 1 equals 5 then a n equals two-thirds x a 7-1 and yes you wrote that I would give my cell phone credit I'm sure it was during class any other questions about grading individual problems I want to give you a quick rundown of the next chapter next time we're back movie after spring break, but there is an assignment that I already posted I posted a Khan Academy video I posted these notes couple things I want to point out so I'm going to go quickly through these nuts one of the things I want to point out is the weird use of the word event K this chapter is what about Counting probability so I'm one of the things that you're asked to do is figure out the probability of event outside of math class when you see you the word event read the word event you think about the word of God you think of something like that you could tell us something you're going to Echo I attend a big deal in event when it comes to math probability is really just now what the heck does this mean collection of one or more outcomes what does that mean give an example when you roll dice when you roll dice like two dice two six-sided dice you could end up going well rolling a 7 is an example of an event why is rolling 7 in event because it's a collection of one or more outcomes why is it one more while there's lots of ways Ro 707 by Rolling a three and a four you can roll a 7 by Rolling a six and one is lots of different ways of rolling a 7 collection of all the different ways of rolling a 7 so rolling a 7 is an event rolling a 2 is only one way to roll it to when rolling two dice that stroller one one that's only one out there but that's still considering the vet so as long as there's a possibility of that happening the collection of one or more outcomes and it's an event can we rolling two dice rolling a 13 is not in the 13 is impossible a collection of one or more outcomes hopefully that makes some sense so weird use of the word event but that's what it means an example of the type of problem going to have to do this as you spin the spinner and you flip a coin how many possible outcomes are in the sample space and what's a sample space the set of all possible out okay I could have spent a 1 and I want to flip a coin I can make ahead so1 heads now you know I could spend a 2 and flip a heads so two heads now, so these are all the different outcomes that are possible that means this thing that I box is the sample space cuz it's the set of all the possible outcomes so this is the sample space how large how many possible. are in the sample space so I can do that two different ways I can count 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 or I could also use something called the counting principle since there's four different ways for me to spend and there's two different ways for me to fly 4 * 2 is 8 counting principle something that you should have learned sometimes Elementary School like if you or trying to figure out how many different outfits you can create and you have let's say three pairs of pants by different artists you know right away what is 15 different ounces is 3 * 5 is 15 the same idea here is four different ways to spin two different ways to slip so there must be eight different ways the book The Textbook doesn't tell you about the counting principle a little bit later but I don't mind you already using it I mean when you look at this problem you don't have to go 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 you can go 4 * 2 factorial is not something that we're going to use just addressing a question I just received factorials knots on the unit use until later on in the chapter we'll deal with that when the time comes factorial something that's used to count in more complicated problem 10.1 you just mean introduced the idea of probability so they don't have anything that requires more sophisticated County message factorial required factorials on you things that a little bit more complicated okay here's another example a probability question I told you that this is about probability a coin is flipped 4 times what is the probability that it lands on heads exactly 3 times text book would do this problems little bit differently than me textbook would list every possible outcome just the same way I did hear they would trade a sample space for everything that could possibly do it probably begin with text Dad said type and eventually end with Chelsea Hotel tips now the sample space for this would be very large because there's two ways of flipping the first coin the first there's two ways of flipping the second time what is it flipping the third time this two ways to * 2 * 2 * 216 so I was going to make a list of all the different ways of different ways that's going to be the textbook mix entire list I'm not going to require that you make that in tireless I'm going to allow you to use... And they ask you make the sample space for this you don't have to write out the entire sample space you can use ellipses I'm just particular problem though you know it while I didn't list all 16 of the possible outcomes you know the textbook would do it that way I did list all the favorable outcomes it says that you're supposed do you have Atlanta heads exactly three times I realize that it could land on heads by the first three being hit it could land on heads by unicorn cats heads so I came up with four different ways set active land you know where it's three heads that means there's for favorable outcomes out of 64 out of 16 as 1/4 so that would be my probability establish that again can I require that you list all 16 I know that the counting principle isn't introduced until later in the chapter but I'm saying you can go ahead and do it already cuz you sure want an Italian Prince When Elementary School 16 different ways of flipping a coin 4 times it's something you should know already so go ahead and utilize your previous knowledge they sometimes you're going to want you a shortcut and shortcut is typically used when you're asked for the probability of something not happening do I have an example on the next page I'll come back to this in a second I'll have an example on the next page it says here that in your book on page 540 example 3 there's a sample space and it's a sample space War what happens when you roll a six-sided dice so here's the picture in my book of the sample space look in the upper left-hand corner it's on page 540 of your book says you have your but you can look at it and see it a lot better than on my screen but what this is a graphic that shows every single roll when you roll two dice you know when you roll two dice the first day I could be anything anything from 1 to 6 and second I could also waiting for 12606 * 6 is 36° 36 different possible role here's a picture of all 36 rolls so this is a picture of the sample space in this example down here is what's the probability of when you roll the two dice. The sum you get is not too well in this sample space there's only one rule that the two can barely see the upper left-hand corner there's a 1-1 which is a role of two that's the only role that's a two now the smart thing to do at this point is not to count how many other roles there are they like 01 three four five six seven eight nine ten volt possible one of them one of them is the role of to the one role we don't want to so what we can do is say 1 - 136 which is the probability of rolling a 2 and say that the probability of not using this formula that says probability of something not happening is 1 - the probability of it happening so the probability of not rolling a 2 is equal to 1 minus the probability of rolling a 2 probability of rolling a 2 is 1 out of 36 -1 + 36 + 35 + 36 here's another example what is probability that sum is greater than age well that one I definitely did it by County I went over here and look at this graphic on page 540 and I just counted County County I noticed that there were four roles that attitude 12 in 1 roll that added up two roles that add up to 11 in 1 roller at 12 so I added 10 roles that were greater than 8 example Forest metric probability when you do a geometric area this case is the probability that it's a dark randomly lands on this Square dartboard what is the probability that it lands in sector 1 or so what I did is I figured out the area of sectors one and two fours to Pi. The area of the entire square and I said to Pi / 16 is the area is the probability that the dart lands in one or two I'm not sure every one of you did geometric probability last year in Geometry but you could have been should have it was in the book you know you just do area / are a good area. bad I mean a total area goes in the bottom which is very similar to the concept of good over total which is theoretical probability that I had way up here on the coin flipping problem good over good area / total area one last thing there's a difference between experimental probability and theoretical probability if you have a spinner that has five sections and they're all the same area section and obviously there's a 1 out of 5 chance that when you spend that you get any particular color but that's called a theoretical probability what if you spun the spinner and these were the results here is for which color is the experimental probability the same as the theoretical probability spinner the 105 is theoretical probability experimental probability for red would be 5 out of 55 out of 50 is not consistent with the theoretical probability your green is 20 out of 50 that's not consistent with the theoretical probability guess you could say green was the hot color you know when it came to spinning this the only one is result was the same as a theoretical probability was yellow yellows 10 out of 50 out of 50 is 1/5 so yellow is the only one for the the probability ends up being assistant theoretical probability so I'm anyways I'll put these notes up Max a summary of what the beginning of this chapter is about obviously like I said earlier this chapter is different it's not as algebraic about probability about time counting later on you can answer a lot of questions chapter that begin with the words how many because counting problems begin with those two words kinds of problems later on chapter the reason they're in the same chapter is probability is because when you think about Seroquel probability you're asking yourself to questions always how many outcomes are there how many total outcomes are there so counting is the key to being good at probability so that's the reason why when talking about coming at aurox which is branch of mathematics counting people lump in probability in under the the Branch Ave, Torrance please that's it I guess next time I'll be on here is after spring break I hope you all enjoy your spring break I apologize for the first session that some obviously didn't go as planned you know maybe I'll do a better job preparing next time to try to counteract that kind of stuff have a good spring break
