In this course we will learn basic ceramic techniques to create hand-built and wheel thrown projects. We will create works of art that communicate cross-cultural themes taken from history and solve visual arts problems by effectively using the principles of design and elements of art. We will view slides of ceramic art from different world cultures and traditions to identify similarities and differences in their artistic and functional purposes. We will describe the relationship between the art maker (artist), art creation (process), the artwork (product), and the viewer. Finally we will begin to employ the conventions of art criticism, speaking about our works of art and articulate the process and rationale for refining and reworking them. Of course we will also have a lot of fun
