CSF

Eligibility requirements: Palos Verdes High School (PVHS) sophomores, juniors and seniors who meet the requirements shall be eligible for semester membership (based upon their 10th, 11th, 12th grade report cards). Ninth graders who meet CSF requirements are considered associate members using their freshmen report cards. Summer school courses cannot be applied.A student may be disqualified from semester membership if judged an unworthy citizen by the adviser and principal. Grades of “D,” “F” and “U” in any subject disqualify a student from membership. See the website for more information regarding class requirements.
 
Application information: Membership is not automatic. Eligible students must apply for membership during the enrollment period, which will be announced during the first several weeks of the semester. Membership is for one semester only, and students must apply each semester. Retroactive membership is not allowed. If a student misses the deadline, he or she may not apply later (ref. State CSF bylaws).
 

NHS

Eligibility requirements: Evaluated on scholarship, character, leadership, service, with an emphasis on well rounded in all 4 areas. Cumulative un-weighted 3.65 GPA; Only juniors and seniors may apply.

Spanish Honor Society

Eligibility requirements: Must have taken Spanish 3h, 4AP, or 5, 5AP, have a GPA of 3.5.

French Honor Society
 
Adviser: Amy Byrne
 
Membership Cap: NA
 
Eligibility requirements: French 3 Honors or French 4 AP are eligible to apply for membership. Students must be in good standing.
 
Application information: Applications are distributed in Fr 3 Honors and Fr 4 AP classes in the fall. Membership dues are $15.

Korean Honor Society

Eligibility requirements: Students have completed three semesters of Korean instruction at his or her school. Students must have achieved an average of 3.5 out of 4.0 (A- or 90%) or above in all Korean language courses including the semester of selection. They must also have maintained a general scholastic GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 (B- or 80%) or above for all secondary school credit including the semester of selection.
 
Application information: Due date: Jan. 15, no cost, an information packet is available upon request.

Chinese Honor Society

Mu alpha theta
 
Adviser: Lorraine Loh Norris
 
Membership Cap: NA
 
Eligibility requirements: Must be in Algebra 2 or higher; 3.5 GPA in all college prep math classes; Must have 4 competition points per semester to join - receive 1 pt for each lunch competition, 2 pts for AMC, 4 points for off campus competitions; Must continue to get 4 competition points per semester and do service projects to maintain membership each semester.
 
Application information: $20 to apply for lifetime membership in Mu Alpha Theta. the national honor society; will get invitation from advisor.
 

Science National Honor Society
 
Adviser: Julie Maemoto and Marie Kuhn

Eligibility requirements: The PVHS Chapter opens membership to students in 11th or 12th grade who have taken a science honors or AP course to 10th grade students as provisional members.  The criteria are as follows:
  • Must maintain an overall minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0
  • Must maintain a minimum unweighted Science GPA of 3.5
  • Must currently be enrolled in an Honors or AP Science Class in application year
  • Seniors and Juniors must have at least TWO Honors or AP level science classes taken before or during their respective years
  • Sophomores must have completed one Honors or AP level science class
  • Must completed the required attendance and volunteer hours (5 pts./semester) to be in good standing
 
Application information: Completed applications along with a $15 non-refundable fee are due to Mrs. Maemoto in September each year.
 

Dance Honor Society
 
Adviser: Kathleen Mastan
 
Membership Cap: NA
 
Eligibility requirements: Students must have 3.0 G.P.A. for induction and earn 30 points towards membership from their participation in Choreo and Intermediate Dance and dance outside of school. Students that earn membership and maintain their status in the organization will wear honor cords at graduation. 
 
Application information: Applications are available at the beginning of the school year.
 

National English Honor Society
 
Adviser: Angie Mogilefsky, Lea Lewis
 
Membership Cap: NA
 
Eligibility requirements:
3.5+ GPA; Attend all membership meetings; Complete one or more volunteer activity per year; Complete one or more donation per year; complete mandatory writing assignment; Complete all mandatory activities.
 
Application information: Students can apply at the beginning of the year, before the beginning of October (date announced at the beginning of each school year), by filling out a Word document and enclosing a $20 fee.

Tri-M Honor Society
 
Adviser: Shellie Parkinson

Eligibility requirements:
In order to be eligible you must have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0 from last semester and have a love for music. If you choose to join you must complete 5 service hours per quarter to remain an active member.
 
Application information: Applications are due in October each year.  See the website for details and the application. 
 

International Thespian Society
 
Adviser: Nicole Thompson
 
Membership Cap: NA
 
Eligibility requirements: To become a Thespian, a student must earn 10 points, the equivalent of 100 hours of work. Induction points are earned through participating in at least two full-length productions.
 
Application information: Applications are due by April 1st. Induction fee is $30. Induction ceremony takes place at our annual Drama Banquet in May. See Mrs. Thompson for application.
