Course Description

In this year-long course, students expand their skills in abstract thinking and improve their ability to provide algebraic solutions to challenging problems in various content areas. A functional approach is used in the development of concepts such as exponents, logarithms, and polynomials. Other topics include systems of quadratic equations, sequences and series, the binomial theorem, the complex number system, and statistics.

In Algebra 2, the average score on the Chapter 4 test was 46.5/60.  Out of 32 scores, 13 were at least 54/60.

Last year, the average was 45.2/60.

The overall average grade is 82.1%.

Chapter 4 Test

45% of students scored at least 54/60.  However, due to some very low scores, the mean average was lower than the median.

Average score by period (out of 60)

Period 0: 48.3
Period 1: 52.8
Period 2: 50.5
Period 4: 52.3

In Algebra 2, the average score on the Chapter 3 test was 46.8/60.  The average last year was 46.5/60.

The overall average grade is 83.4%.  Your quarter grade will be whatever is currently on Aeries.  I do not drop a test until the semester is over.  Some students' grades will be higher at the semester because of the dropped test.

Chapter 3 Test

Average score by period (out of 60)

Period 0: 54.4
Period 1: 55.2
Period 2: 53.6
Period 4: 56.0

In Algebra 2, the average score on the Chapter 2 test was 43.2/50.

The overall average grade is 83%.  If I had to give letter grades at this time, the grade would be what is on Aeries.  There are 16 A's out of 37 students.  This is a very high number for an Algebra 2 class.

Chapter 2 Test

Average score by period (out of 60)

Period 0: 47.8
Period 1: 49.6
Period 2: 46.9
Period 4: 49.7

The average on this test last year was 49.5.  Last year, 63% of students earned A's first semester.

Grades

At this point in the semester, please disregard any letter grades that you see on Aeries.  Here are the relevant things you should know:

In Algebra 2, the average grade is currently 84.3%.  That is a few percent higher than last year when 2/3 of my Algebra 2 students ended up with an A or a B at the semester.  So, if your average is near 80%, you are in good shape.

In Algebra 2 Honors, the average grade is currently 81.8%.  Two years ago, the average at this point was 83.6%, and 52% of those students earned A's.  Last year, the average at this point was 86.1%, and 63% of those students earned A's.

The average on this week's quiz was in line with the last 2 years.  Hopefully, the average grade in Algebra 2 Honors will rise to what it has been the past 2 years.  If not, simply earning average grades may not be enough to earn an A.

I like surprises.  I hope you do, too.

Every chapter, I give a surprise quiz.  I usually wait until we are at least halfway through a chapter.
