The second year student is a continuation of Latin 1 course. After brief review of prior Latin grammar , syntax and vocabulary Latin students continue to master foundations of Latin.  Translations and choice of readings are graduated in difficulty. In addition to a systematic review of first year grammar, more involved grammatical constructions are represented to facilitate the reading of the Latin authors. Drill in vocabulary and English derivatives is continued in order to build derivative word power. Latin expressions used in English are presented to help the modern reader appreciate and cope with interesting and useful maxims, proverbs and terms used in law and medicine.

 

All students take the appropriate level of the National Latin Exam as a means of measuring their progress against national standards and diverse programs across the country.

Membership in the school Latin Club, CA JCL and the NJCL are highly encouraged.
