Assignment

Video Production 1 Students & Parents -

Thank you for working with your classes during this time away. I see several students are finishing assignment #1 early. This is good. If you're still working on this week's assignment, it is due this Friday, in our Turn In folder called: Interview Student Feedback

The next and last assignment will be based on broadcast journalism. With the help of PBS Newshour Student Reporting Labs, you will find your next assignment here:

Assignment #2

You may choose either Path #1 or Path #2. There are step-by-step guidelines on completing the assignments. However, it is not necessary to do all the pre-production steps. Please pick what will help you prepare and complete the assignment.

Path #1, requires little to no editing. I understand some students do not have access to editing software, which is completely understandable. Please choose this option if editing is a problem.

Path #2, this is where we are in class. Students are ready to produce a news package. They have practiced with b-roll, key frames, fading music, voice overs, interview techniques and framing. Of course, things will need to be modified based on our current situation, however, it would be great to see students attempt this option. The pre-production steps are awesome and will really help students tell their story. This option is harder, but I feel best meets class expectations. You will need editing software to complete this assignment. I do not recommend editing on a cell phone or iPad, unless you have purchased software/app. This is best done on a desktop/laptop computer. We use Final Cut Pro in class, which can be purchased/download from the Apple Store. This is not necessary.   Please do Path #1, if you do not have editing software.

In the Turn In folder, please turn in your final video by Friday, March 27, 3pm in the folder called: PBS News Package. This will be the last assignment before Spring Break.

I am on standby for help, questions, concerns. Please let me know if you need anything and stay safe.

Due:

Assignment

In Video Production 1 we were at the beginning stages of doing a class newscast. We had recently finished interview projects with: b-roll, music, voice over. We use Google Drive, which all Video Production 1 students have access.

I am using this email for class communication. If you'd like me to use something else, please let me know. This email is going to all parents and students in Video Production 1.

When we return to school, we will produce our class newscast. In the meantime, I will provide assignments for Video Production 1 students to do at home.

Assignment #1: Watch all the interview projects from their class. In the Turn In folder, there is a new folder called Interview Student Feedback. In that folder, create a New Doc, name the doc your name, and answer these questions:

1. Which interview, other than your interview, had the best framing? The best b-roll? The best music and voice over? And, why?

2. Did you notice any jump cuts in any of the interviews? Which interviews had jump cuts?

3. Which interview was your favorite and why?

Due: Friday, March 20, 8am.

No worries about doing any video production work outside of class. I'm comfortable returning to production work when we get back to school.

I will be checking my email Monday - Friday 7:30am - 3pm. Please feel free to send me an email with any questions or concerns.

Thank you and stay safe.
Mr. Vela
