I have zeroed out all the work for any days a student has a truancy on record (class cut). You can check your Aeries account to see if this applies to you...O is the code for truancy.
See me in person if you have questions as I don't "discuss" grades via email.

PRESS-FRIENDS

 

PressFriends is holding a training for new student volunteers on Saturday, January 20th from 2:00-3:15pm at the Peninsula Center Library in the Community Room. 

 

PressFriends is a fun way to make a difference.  They work with elementary students in the Title 1 elementary schools, boys & girls clubs, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, and Richstone Family Center.  They were founded by kids for kids in 2008 and today are still an all-volunteer and student-run organization.  They have over 100 chances to volunteer every year and mentor 400 underserved youth annually.  They also have leadership opportunities after you volunteer 25 hours in one year in their afterschool newspaper clubs and high school student board members have gone on to Univ of Pennsylvania, Univ of Michigan, Univ of Virginia, USC, NYU, John Hopkins, UC Berkeley, UCSB, UCI, Clemson, Purdue, Villanova, Chapman, Marquette, LMU and many more!  For more information and to signup visit  bitly.com/PF012018

CAPITOL CONVOY - app due 12/15

 Capitol Convoy is set for April 17-18, 2018.  All students interested in attending this annual event to Sacramento must complete the application and submit it by December 15th.  Please follow all directions on the application carefully and note all dates of mandatory meetings prior to the event.  This trip is paid for by the PVHS PTSA.  Twelve students will be selected to represent Palos Verdes High School.

YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL - apps due 12/15

Applications are being accepted for a Youth Advisory Council. The purpose of this council is to engage high school students within the 33rd Congressional District, to discuss legislation or current events that impact their community as well as inspire civic-minded young adults. All students in grades 9-12 who reside or attend school in CA-33 are eligible to attend.  The application deadline is December 15, 2017Click here for the application and instructions.

CSF TOY DRIVE - Fall Member Requirement!

The CSF Annual Toy Drive to benefit Murchinson Street School is taking place from Monday 11/27 through Friday 12/8.  Donations must be a NEW toy item for children ages 4-12.  Click here for a list of most requested items and letter from the MSS principalAll donations should be brought to Ms. Klabe's classroom, 316, by the end of the school day on Friday 12/8.  Donations satisfy the Fall Semester CSF Donation Requirement, so bring your CSF log for signature when you donate.  If you have any questions, contact your CSF Class Rep or board member.

2 Speech Contests available for grades 9-12

The PV Sunset Rotary Club is sponsoring a speech contest for grades 9-12 that will take place on Tuesday, December 5, from 6:45 pm - 8:30 pm. The location of the contest will be determined at a later date.  The Speech Topic this year is "Making a Difference" which is the Rotary Theme for 2017-2018.  Contestants should structure a speech that explains, promotes or clarifies how this theme is a positive solution to life's challenges and problems.  Speeches are typically 4-6 minutes.  The winner of this competition will advance to the Rotary District Dance Contest at Loyola Marymount University on Saturday, March 10, 2018 and has the possibility to win $1,000.  If interested, please contact Mrs. Hoffman via email or stop by the College and Career Center, Room 318, ASAP.  Only three will be able to sign-up.  First come, first served!

 

 

The Student Speakers Contest,sponsored by the Lion's Club,is open to high school students, grades 9-12.  The topic for this year's speech contest is "What Role Does Integrity and Civility Play in Today's Society?".  Students entering the contest shall prepare a talk to be as close as possible to, but not over, ten minutes, nor less than five minutes delivery time.  This contest involves a number of rounds.  The student who wins the final round (state level) will have won over $20,000 in scholarship money!  If interested in participating, there will be an informational meeting over lunch on Friday, November 17, from 12:15 pm-12:45 pm in the College and Career Center, Room 318.

SoCal Roc is now enrolling for its 2nd quarter 9 week classes- Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc), Banking and Financial Services, and Business Entrepreneur.  Classes begin November 6th.  Come to the counseling office to sign up to speak with a SoCal Roc counselor.
