How do strong STEM-focused institutions read and evaluate applications? A mock admissions case study provides a unique and important opportunity for students and their families to act as members of an admissions committee to review and evaluate sample applications to a fictional college... in this case, a highly selective, stem focused institution like Caltech.
Guided by Melissa Rodriguez, the Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions for Caltech, participants will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate, ultimately making the decision to admit, waitlist or deny admission.
This activity should help demystify the college admissions process and reveal how it is not based solely on grades and/or test scores... but on a holistic review of each applicant with a particular focus on students applying to institutions in a STEM major
