hey how's it going Mighty this is algebra 1 this is Mr O this is our first screencast notes that were taking and hopefully that we will be able to continue this in the next coming weeks in order to do something different type of learning and inviting the screencast you guys could actually continue to play to block a problem that way and kind of go at your own pace so it'd be great if we could all try it out and kind of figure out like oh hey this benefits me in certain ways we can't necessarily do live on zoom and I know there's a small group of students who have said that you know they need to go back on the note so they have to stick around afternoon in order to I finished out all the notes excetra okay so yeah so let's give this a shot if you have a paper pencil ready to go out of the green I'm at Durant I'm going to ask you to pause a minute if you're able to try to do the pump on your own that not by then you could also just continue to play through the video and I'm going to go ahead and work through the Palms together with you okay IXL there's two types of graphs that we're going to cover the standard form we already did okay we already covered in the slogan is from slope intercept form with we've already seen okay that we we haven't reviewed that show me and a lot of you guys already not yet. But we're going to go ahead and bring you that as well cuz it it pertains to our next lesson and then I want to go ahead and tie them in together because we've working on writing linear equation in the previous weeks and still so that kind of setup the relationship of why we have to grab and why we have to write equations because those are the two top in which why would a graphing a y of a writing equations ones in picture form the other one is in mathematical equation for him and and they're just different representations of the same thing okay so let's connect all that together through this notes today okay well let's go over the standard form first so the standard form we're going to see the equation or going to manipulate the equation to be an ax + b y equals c form okay if it's in this form there was definitely and it is an advantage for us because we got to okay we got to use a really simple x y a t chart in order to draft is so if we had something like 2 x - 4 Y is equal to 20 okay if we had a equation like this it's already in standard form the strategy was to do an x y t-chart and we already have two values substituted a04a there for y we're going to do the by substituting 0 for x and when we do that I can see that 2 * 0 is there any kind of cancel that I want to divide by negative form bows why is it called a negative 5 that value is my y intercepts. I'm going to actually treat 0 negative find the ordered pair go ahead and do that for why going to press the pause button I'm glad substitute why does that help us get our x-intercept I guess I'll go ahead and press pause and find the x intercept really quickly if you're ready to move on here we go going to have 2 x - 4 x 0 is equal to 24 times 0 is going to cancel out dog be left with two x is equal to 20 and then divide both sides by 2 equal to 10 K to these are the two points that I would graph okay what does it mean 0 negative 5 means don't go up or down okay don't call that to write excuse me I want to go down 5 that's what it means 10, 0 things go right 10 and then we can do 0 up or down okay so that's what I'm going to graph XY down 1 2 3 4 5 cuz if there's my 0 negative 5 and then I'm going to go bright 10 and then don't go up or down count us out with me one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 10, 0 and then I'm going to go ahead connect those points will try to frustrate as fine as possible so that's going to be my graph for a normally we have to we have to label the graph okay so I'm going to write 2 x - 4 Y is equal to 20 that indicate that that line is that equation okay but have you guys try one real quick instead oh don't do that no deleting t3x bus 5 Y is equal to 30. I like to keep going what what if we have grass in slope intercept form so what if we have is y equals MX plus b for so this could be it'll be easier for a lot of you okay so just make this example number three directions lights on to say something like graph what if I had why is it could have negative 4x + 3 okay well first thing I had to do that to identify that this number in front of X is my slope and this number that's my constant is my be on my y intercept and so that's what I have to know what it is well if m is equal to -4 I'm going to ride that over one remember slope is rise rise over run it which means I'm going to go down for and right one okay that's what I have to decode using rise over run my wine or said that's super easy B is what's the 300 that's going to tell me where my grass starts in my XY going to plant it starts at 3 so I'm going to go up one two three okay I prefer that you do this two times to use a slope but if you just do it once that's okay too cuz that just means we have a small graph okay when he's down for from this point from my Y intercept I'm going to go down 1 2 3 4 which should be a negative one and then I'm going to go right one Will Smith in my hair so we did that one more time then I would go 1 2 3 4 let's go right one so I'd actually end up right here again if I did this correctly then these points should all form straight line location never be Jagged but that's going to be my graph I want to label My Graph -4x + 3 asthma graph let's have you guys travel I have to y equals 2x - 3 go in and press the pause button here and see if you could grab it all on your own I don't believe about 5 seconds and then before I start solving the problem Okay so first of all I know that is equal to 2/1 at the same value that means up to and right one okay for my being is equal to -3 that's where on my graph 1 2 3 -3 is my Y intercept from this point I'm going to go up one two and then right one let's do that one more time I'm going to go up one two and then write one okay and you could see that it's starting to form a straight line again I'm going to go ahead and try to drive straight line as possible this graph is y is equal to 2 x - 3 it intersects at -3 or here and then goes up to right one that point on the phone that way okay so hopefully either. Microsoft if we see a problem in standard form then you should use scratching and stand up from that day if you see a problem in slope intercept form then you should use Smack That so how does a well how does this make sense with the riding linear equations work that we did so let me draw a graph connect the point of why this is all connected let's just use random points okay so I'm going to use one, two year and I can chat with three, one gave us these whole numbers and let's use positive numbers just to keep the prom simple so if I had to write a linear equation they giving this problem noticed that in the previous for problems example, that we did our gold with that actually to write a to find a graph of the equation it when we're doing writing linear equation with one of the types of problems that we came across was from a graph form to write an equation for okay so which is what I this year it will the first thing that we have to do is we got to use the points okay and then and then I need to find my slope how do I find the smoke it was through my slow formula Y2 - y1 / X-2 - X1 I'm going to go ahead and label my order Paradise X1 y1 X2 Y2 slope is equal to 1 - 2/3 - 1 which is -1 over to Mike's graph for slope is negative 1/2 okay well if I use that in one of my ordered pairs okay I could actually use sat in point slope form which is y minus y1 is it the end times Xmen effects of one day I'm going to substitute in for a y1 and tech support okay so my question will be written I don't change the why it's y - 2 is equal to M which is negative 1/2 which we just found here and I'm going do ex- and then my exit one is one from the original problem right there I'm going to distribute which makes at 1 - -1/2 x + 1/2 that's not that bad negative 1 times negative one half its Posite one of itself anything comes one is itself and then I'm going to isolate why which hope all of you remember how to do I'm going to add to easy way to think about this was $2 plus half a dollar 50 Cent has 2 and 1/2 okay so it could be 2.5 or another way to think about it is if you want to add by 4/2 then it becomes add by 5/2 so that's another way we could go now I wrote the equation and it turns out to be an equation in slope intercept form the all the week that we working on writing linear equations we're trying to find an equation in slope intercept form this week we're trying to voice thing that we're starting out a problem in slope intercept and I were going to try to crap it to actually doing the complete opposite to graphing is actually the opposite process for us of turning an equation into a visual writing equations is the process of us use it using the graph in the points on the graph in order to write an algebraic equation okay so there are the two opposite processes graphing and writing Lynn equations okay and I know that for writing linear equations sometimes we started out with given the slope and the y-intercept they were different types of problems that just means we're farther along the problem I'm just from the graph for okay so that's what we have okay I want you to I Want You Back to go ahead and refer to the website for the assignment listed just for today go ahead and give you the rest of the assignment on Wednesday okay based upon our notes I'll see you in gym class on Wednesday make sure you wrote down the notes if not go back in play to write all this down as it will be included in our second packet for this week so don't forget to include that because we're going to have two sets of notes this week and then I will have that Simon listed on that day of Watch okay that's it for today thank you guys for watching and writing down the notes today I'll see you guys in class on Wednesday have a wonderful day
