Camera functions and historical references are explored throughout the year. Each student has a real world opportunity to shoot for a client. Students will also shoot assignments on location. Class visits by professional photographers provide lectures while demonstrating their skills to the students. At the end of the year, each student self publishes a book containing their best photographic work.

Each student creates a long-term project that he or she will shoot throughout the school year. Students choose the topic they want to explore in depth. At the end of the year, each student organizes, hangs and attends their own photo exhibit. This class also explores alternative shooting methods over the course of the year. Alternative software editing programs and methods are introduced throughout the year. In this course, students produce an experimental portfolio as well as a long-term project portfolio.
