Personal Background:
I was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, home of the Jayhawks! Rock Chalk! I spent my entire life being a swimmer and cheerleader for the Lawrence Lions, and as the oldest of thirty-seven first cousins, I decided to stay close to home for my college years. I was fortunate enough to swim for the University of Kansas all four years of school, and it was there that I became friends with a teammate…. who ten years later, I decided to marry.
My husband Zac talked me in to moving cross country from Kansas and I moved to Redondo Beach in 2006. I was lucky to be hired by Chris Bowles on July 31st and I left for cheer camp three days later. I have been a proud Sea King ever since and my two children (Lylah, 8 and Banks, 5) are being raised at this school, our second home.
Professional Background:
This is my 18th year in education. I spent six years teaching at my rival high school (Lawrence Free State High School) where I taught US History, Minority History, Government, and World History while coaching Varsity Cheerleading and Varsity Girls Swimming. When I came to Palos Verdes, I was hired to be the Varsity Cheer Coach and to teach World History and World History Honors to freshman. In 2010, I moved into the Activities Director position, which naturally fits with my coaching life.
Education Philosophy:
My education philosophy is simple…..kids first. It is always about the kids. I try to do what is in the best interest of kids every second of every day. I believe they need to balance academics with a fun high school experience, learn from their mistakes, and to be good leaders who put forth their best effort in everything that they do. I want Palos Verdes High School to always be a part of them and always be a place they consider home.
